چکیده

The triple-proton-transfer reactions of 8H-1,8-naphthyridin-2-one (8H-naph) have been investigated by employing different ab initio quantum mechanical methods. The proton transfer reactions studied were facilitated through complexation of 8H-naph with a 1,3-propanediol molecule or two adjacent water molecules. Identical proton transfer reactions were studied using a model system of 8Hnaph to investigate the validity of computational approaches that use model systems to study more complex systems. The solvent effects on the structures were investigated for comparison to the initial gas phase calculations. The potential energy, reaction force, and work profiles were studied along the intrinsic reaction coordinate to monitor the developing proton transfer reactions.

Tipping the Balance between Concerted versus Sequential Proton-Coupled Electron Transfer.

We use quantized molecular dynamics simulations to investigate the competition between concerted and sequential proton-coupled electron-transfer (PCET) reaction mechanisms in inorganic catalysts. By analyzing reactive nonadiabatic PCET trajectories and computing both concerted and sequential rate constants, we characterize various molecular features that govern inorganic PCET reactions, includi...

Development of a ReaxFF reactive force field for glycine and application to solvent effect and tautomerization.

Tautomerization of amino acids between the neutral form (NF) and the zwitterionic form (ZW) in water has been extensively studied, often using glycine as a model to understand this fundamental process. In spite of many advanced studies, the tautomerization reaction remains poorly understood because of the intrinsic complexities of the system, including multiple accessible reaction pathways, cha...

Glyoxalase I--structure, function and a critical role in the enzymatic defence against glycation.

Glyoxalase I is part of the glyoxalase system present in the cytosol of cells. The glyoxalase system catalyses the conversion of reactive, acyclic alpha-oxoaldehydes into the corresponding alpha-hydroxyacids. Glyoxalase I catalyses the isomerization of the hemithioacetal, formed spontaneously from alpha-oxoaldehyde and GSH, to S -2-hydroxyacylglutathione derivatives [RCOCH(OH)-SG-->RCH(OH)CO-SG...

Influence of the solvent on the ground- and excited-state buffer-mediated proton-transfer reactions of a xanthenic dye.

The buffer-mediated proton-transfer reactions of the fluorescent xanthenic derivative 9-[1-(2-Methyl-4-methoxyphenyl)]-6-hydroxy-3H-xanthen-3-one (TG-II) have been studied in different aqueous media. We have employed various buffers to investigate the influence of donor/acceptor systems with different anion and/or cation chemical constituents on the kinetic parameters of proton-transfer. The ki...

On the nature and origin of dicationic, charge-separated species formed in liquid water on X-ray irradiation.

To understand the yield and patterns of damage in aqueous condensed matter, including biological systems, it is essential to identify the initial products subsequent to the interaction of high-energy radiation with liquid water. Until now, the observation of several fast reactions induced by energetic particles in water was not possible on their characteristic timescales. Therefore, some of the...
